LC Perfect in Game Two of DH Softball Sweep of Sweet Briar

LYNCHBURG, VA –The 16th-ranked Lynchburg College softball team threw a perfect game against Sweet Briar College in game two of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader, while posting identical scoring efforts in two 8-0, five-inning victories on Wednesday.

The trio of Amber Ingram, Cassie Phillips, and Hope Johnson combined to pitch all five innings of game two, while not allowing a runner to reach base and striking out eight Vixens.

Lynchburg started quickly in game one, crossing the plate four times in the first inning. Jessi Hall led off the frame with a single to shortstop, stole second base, and scored on Melanie Tenney's single to center field. Ingram followed Tenney with a single of her own and stole second before Michaela Munday reached on an error, scoring Tenney and Ingram. Phillips rounded out the first inning with a Munday-scoring single to center.

Tenney drove in her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the second for a 5-0 lead, but the Hornets would be held scoreless in the next two innings before scoring three in the fifth.

The Vixens had already forced LC into two outs before Olivia Donohue singled to left field. Kacey Clary reached on a throwing error and back-to-back singles from Erica Damone and Taylor Thomason ended the game, 8-0.

The Hornets plated a lone run in the first inning of game two on an Ingram hit by pitch, and one in the third on Tenney's RBI single before opening the game up in the fourth inning.

LC was already leading 2-0 when Clary led off the fourth with a single to second base. One out later, Hall singled, moving to second on an error to put runners on second and third where Nicole Riley drove them in on her two-run single up the middle. Riley later scored on a Danielle Powell double to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead.

Lynchburg used a Phillips' double, a single by Tenney and a Vixen fielding miscue to plate three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Lynchburg (28-7/13-3 ODAC) travels to Emory & Henry (11-23/3-13 ODAC) Saturday for an ODAC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
