Hornets Fall 5-0 to No. 20 Washington and Lee
LEXINGTON, VA-The Lynchburg College women's tennis team started the 2015 spring season on Wednesday with a 5-0 loss to No. 20 Washington and Lee University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Generals, perennially ranked and one of the top teams in the region regardless of division, were a challenge for the Hornets as LC fell in the match played to decision.
Chloe Fisher and Madison Karnes saw their singles matches completed while Melissa Drinkard, Kelsey Dowling, Katie Kline and Jerica Simmons were still on the court at the conclusion of the match. Washington and Lee (4-2/1-0 ODAC) took all three doubles points despite Drinkard and Fisher competing in a high level match against the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the nation.
"Starting off the season against some of the nation's most successful programs allowed our team to see what we need to do to get where we want to be," head coach Josef Manilla explained. "I was very proud of our team's character tonight. The culture we have created will prove to be a strong foundation for a successful future."
Lynchburg (0-1/0-1) will take the court again on Saturday when Covenant College makes the trip up from Georgia for a 4 p.m. start. The Lynchburg home matches will be played at E.C. Glass High School.
