Men's Tennis Posts Best Effort of the Season in Close Defeat to H-SC
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's tennis came within several points of claiming its initial victory of 2015, dropping a 6-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) decision to Hampden-Sydney College.
The Hornets got singles victories from Andrew Link, Jordan Falinski, and Adam Murphy to split the singles action 3-3.
Link cruised in his 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles while Falinski and Murphy had to fight a little bit harder to pull out wins.
Falinski battled through a bloody nose in singles play, fighting to a 7-5 first set victory before taking the second set easily, 6-1. Murphy also fought through some pain, going down on the court several times but persevering for a 6-3, 6-3 win.
"I ran into the fence during my match and fell on the court three times, I was playing so hard," Murphy said. "Each time I got back up and battled."
The match was decided due to several key points in doubles play that could have easily swung the victory over to the Hornets. The No. 1 doubles team of Josh Johnson and Grady Allin fell by just two games, 8-6, as did Will Nsoesie and Murphy at No. 3 doubles. Falinski and Link worked to a 12-point tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, falling 9-8 (7-5).
Lynchburg (0-6/0-5 ODAC) travels to Virginia Wesleyan College (8-3/6-1) for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
