Women's Tennis Concludes Season at Hollins University
ROANOKE, VA –The Lynchburg College women's tennis team completed the 2015 season on Tuesday afternoon, winning a pair of matches against Hollins University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. Hollins won 7-2 over LC.
The Hornets took one of the three doubles matches, keeping the contest within one point as singles play started. Mel Drinkard and Catherine So teamed up at No. 2 doubles for the first time this season, winning 8-4.
Lynchburg played a pair of hard fought singles matches, dropping one and winning the other. Jerica Simmons, also in a new spot in the lineup, took the first set 6-3 in No. 3 singles. Her challenger from Hollins fought back to win the second set 6-0 and carried that momentum to a 10-6 third-set win.
An oddly similar match occurred at No. 6 where Katie Kline dropped the first set 6-4 to Ling Gao. Kline fought back in the second set, winning 6-0. Gao did not let the second-set collapse get to her, fighting hard in the third set to challenge Kline. The senior did everything in her power to win her last collegiate match, picking up the final few games for a 10-8 victory.
