Hornet Women's Tennis Nearly Upsets Randolph
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's tennis team nearly upset cross-town rival Randolph College Friday, but ultimately fell 5-4.
The Hornets won two of the three doubles matches, but Randolph rallied to win four of the six singles flights. Lilli Altenburg won a hard-fought 6-3, 0-6, 10-4 decision at #4 singles and Jerica Simmons won her match 6-3, 6-3 at #6. Erika Haaland won six games at #1 singles.
Haaland teamed with Altenburg for an 8-5 win at #2 doubles, while Simmons and Valeria Erostegui earned an 8-3 win at #3.
"This is a team that blanked us last year, said head coach Josef Manilla. "So to play them so close was progress. We are making giant steps forward."
The match concludes the Hornet fall season.
