Hornet Men Outlast W&L 91-76
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team shot 61 percent from the floor Saturday afternoon and went on to defeat Washington & Lee University 91-76 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
Lynchburg opened a 20-14 lead at the 12:28 mark of the first half after a three-pointer from senior Austen Arnold. W&L rallied to forge a 25-21 advantage after an 11-1 run. LC scored the last six points of the half to take a 42-36 lead at intermission.
Lynchburg exploded out of the gates in the second half, out-scoring the Generals 26-7 to open a 27-point lead (70-43) with 11:28 left on the game clock. Washington & Lee chipped away at the deficit and cut the advantage to just nine in the final four minutes, but could get no closer.
The Hornets hit 31 of their 55 shots and also earned 31 trips to the free throw line en route to the team's second-highest point total of the season.
All five starters finished in double digits. Arnold netted a game-best 21 points, his third-straight game setting a new season-high point total. He has averaged 18.3 points in his last three outings, and also grabbed seven rebounds Saturday. Lyndon White was 7-of-9 on the day for 16 points, and Devante' Young missed just one shot to finish with 14 points. Zack Burnett had a full statistical line of 13 points, six rebounds and five assists and Alex Graves added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Nicholas George and Clayton Murtha each had 19 points for Washington & Lee (10-10/3-8 ODAC). Andy Kleinlein was nearly perfect from the field, sinking 5-of-6 shots and four three-pointers for 17 points.
The Hornets (16-5/9-3 ODAC) travel across town Wednesday for another conference clash at Randolph College at 7 p.m.
