Hornet Women's Tennis Rallies for 5-4 win at Guilford
GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College women's tennis team trailed 4-3 Saturday but won the last two singles matches to post a 5-4 come-from-behind victory at Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The contest was held at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
The #2 and #3 singles matches were played last, and LC's Valeria Erostegui earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over her Guilford opponent at #2 to tie the match 4-4. Sarah Wyly sent the Hornets home with a team victory after posting a 6-3, 6-4 win at #3 singles.
The two teams split the six singles matches, with Lilli Altenburg capturing her contest at #5 6-0, 6-1. Erika Hadland and Jerica Simmons each won seven games at #1 and #6 singles, respectively.
Lynchburg won two of the three doubles matches. Hadland and Kelsey Dowling earned an 8-4 victory at #2 and Wyly and Altenburg fought for a 9-8 (7-5) win at #3.
"I am so proud of the team and how they fought today," said head coach Josef Manilla. "This was a big win for the program."
The Hornets (5-4/1-1 ODAC) host Randolph-Macon College Wednesday at 2 p.m. in another ODAC match.
