LC Women Scratch out 5-4 win over Emory & Henry
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-4 win Friday against visiting Emory & Henry College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.
The victory brings the Hornets' record to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in ODAC play. The six wins are the most for the team since the 2007 campaign.
LC captured the match on the strength of two doubles wins. The #2 doubles team of Erika Hadland and Kelsey Dowling and the #3 duo of Sarah Wyly and Lilli Altenburg each posted 8-1 wins.
Each team won three singles matches and the #3, #4 and #5 flights each went to three sets. Dowling won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at #4, while Wyly and Altenburg suffered tight losses at #3 and #5. Hadland breezed to a win at #2 singles and Jerica Simmons lost just three games en route to victory at #6 singles.
"It was an awesome win for the women today," said LC head coach Josef Manilla. "They have continually shown that they can tough out close matches."
Lynchburg hosts Ferrum College Sunday at 11 a.m. this Sunday.
