Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's field hockey team leapt out to an early lead and added to it late, securing a 4-1 non-conference win over Stevenson Monday afternoon at home.

Sophomore forward Jackie Lerro (Royersford, Pa.) notched her second-straight multi-goal game, senior forward Isabella Eldridge (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) turned in a two-goal performance, and senior midfielder Kayla Copeman (Williamsburg, Va.) scored once.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laurel Nicks (Yorktown, Va.) made nine saves for the Hornets.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Copeman opened the scoring for the Hornets in the 16th minute when she tracked down a loose ball after freshman midfielder Kaylie Truitt's (Lewes, Del.) shot was saved and put it in the cage.

• In the 18th minute, Lerro scored unassisted to make it 2-0 in favor of the Hornets. Stevenson's Emma Adams scored to cut the lead to one, where it would remain until halftime.

• After the break, Lynchburg's offense continued the pressure until breaking through again in the 51st minute. Eldridge pushed the ball under the charging goalkeeper, and Lerro gave the ball its final push into the cage.

• The Hornets scored again in the 69th minute when sophomore forward Taylor Jones (Yorktown, Va.) played a ball high that Eldridge swatted for a goal.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will remain the home team Wednesday in a return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play against Shenandoah. The game will start at 7 p.m. across town at the Liberty University Field Hockey Complex.
