Women's tennis mauls Panthers for first win of spring

Lynchburg, Va. -- A doubles sweep set the tone for the Lynchburg College women's tennis team's 8-1 victory over Ferrum in the Hornets' home-opener Sunday at the Crosswhite Athletic Club.

No. 1 doubles duo Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) rolled to a sweep over the Panthers' top pair, and LC's Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.) and Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) did the same at No. 3 doubles.

Harris set the tone at No. 1 singles as well, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win over FC's Morgan Scott. The Hornets swept all but one of the singles matches, powered on the bottom end of the lineup by Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) and Coon at Nos. 5 and 6, both of whom dropped just one game in victorious matches.

"I saw 100% effort from everyone on the court today, every single point, no matter what the score was," said Harris. "It was awesome to see everybody playing hard throughout the whole match and fighting for every ball.
Lynchburg improves to 1-1 on the young season and will look for a second-straight victory on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Southern Virginia.
