Women's tennis falls in close one at SVU

Buena Vista, Va. -- The Lynchburg College women's tennis team suffered a tight 5-4 loss at Southern Virginia in non-conference action Thursday afternoon.

The Knights won the dual on the final singles match of the day at No. 6, where SVU's Natalie Teets defeated junior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Lynchburg trailed 2-1 after the doubles portion, gaining the lone point at No. 1, where sophomore Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and freshman Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) won 8-1. Harris also dominated at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory to stay undefeated in 2018.

The Hornets also took points at Nos. 3 and 4, thanks to wins by sophomore Halle Lavieri (Killingworth, Conn.) and Guill, respectively.

Lynchburg falls to 1-2 on the young season and begins Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday, Feb. 24 at Guilford in Greensboro, N.C.
