Women's tennis blanks Guilford to open ODAC play

Greensboro, N.C. -- The bottom half of the lineup came through huge for the Lynchburg College women's tennis team, leading the Hornets to a 9-0 sweep of host Guilford in both teams' Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener Saturday afternoon.

Junior Sarah Wyly (Leesburg, Va.), junior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.), and freshman Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 singles victories at Nos. 4-6 to set the tone for a dominating day in singles play.

At No. 1 singles, sophomore Halle Lavieri (Killingworth, Conn.) won 6-1, 6-1, and LC's No. 3 player, freshman Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.), duplicated the result in her match.

Altenburg and junior Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) didn't drop a set at No. 3 doubles to highlight the duos portion of competition.

Lynchburg (2-2, 1-0 ODAC) will set course for Roanoke, Va., and another ODAC contest at Hollins on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.
