Ferrum, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team started the Old Dominion Athletic Conference season with a bang Tuesday, downing host Ferrum, 9-0, on the road.
Lynchburg won a trio of tough doubles matches, starting with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 by junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.).
Freshman Alissa Anderson (Norfolk, Va.) and senior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.) also earned an 8-2 triumph at No. 2, while seniors Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) and Sarah Wyly (Leesburg, Va.) took an 8-6 victory at the third spot.
The Hornets were more dominant at singles, starting with Anderson's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Harris took a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1, and Altenburg also dropped just one game, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.
At Nos. 5 and 6, Coon and sophomore Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.) also won in straight sets.
Wyly finished out the sweep at the second spot, earning a 2-6, 6-2 (5) thriller of a win.
Lynchburg's women will make their home debut Saturday, March 2 with a 10 a.m. non-conference match against St. Mary's (Md.) followed by a 2 p.m. ODAC contest against Guilford on the Lynchburg Tennis Courts.
