Ferrum, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's basketball team got back on the winning track Wednesday with a 76-64 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over host Ferrum.

Senior wing Austin Wrighten (Woodbridge, Va.) led the Hornets' charge with 17 points and 10 rebounds -- his 10th double-double of the season -- to pace five Lynchburg players in double figures.

Senior guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) became the fourth player to record 300 career assists in the contest, reaching the mark with a first-half dish to senior forward Connor Schroeder (Blacksburg, Va.). Young finished with 12 points and three helpers, while Schroeder tallied 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists of his own.

Junior guard Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C.) tallied 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists, and junior forward Cody Lang (Madison Heights, Va.) netted 10 points and five rebounds.

Rashad Reed led Ferrum with a game-best 28 points.

The victory snapped a four-game losing skid for Lynchburg and finished a day of good news; the Hornets were ranked sixth in the South Region when the season's first NCAA Division III regional rankings were announced earlier Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Lynchburg started the game on a 14-3 run powered by three early baskets from Lang and some hot 3-point shooting, and the Hornets parlayed that into a 20-point halftime lead, 51-31. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field in the half.

• Wrighten opened the second-half with a 3 from the left elbow, but Lynchburg wasn't able to pull away any farther.

• Ferrum began to close the gap midway through the half, using an extended 12-3 run to cut the deficit to 68-61 on Reed's jumper with 2:45 remaining.

• The Panthers cut the lead to five in the late going, but Lynchburg got the defensive stops it needed and went 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the final minute to seal the victory.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Feb. 9 with the Hornets' final regular-season home game of 2019, a 5:30 p.m. tip against Shenandoah. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to the game.
