Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- With 7:44 left in the second half, senior Chance Greene made an off-balance 3-pointer, banking it off the backboard, and with that shot, the Creedmoor, N.C., native recored his 1,000th-career point for the University of Lynchburg men's basketball team. Greene and the Hornets came away with a 78-52 win Wednesday over Ferrum College.
The Hornets (12-5, 7-1 ODAC) received a 13-point performance from Greene and a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double from Tharon Suggs, his second of the season. T.C. Thacker scored 14 with five boards, and Cody Lang had 11 rebounds for Lynchburg.
Lynchburg found itself down 6-0 early to the Panthers (8-9, 3-5), but the Hornets got on the board with a Suggs 3-pointer. Lynchburg continued to trail until the 8:21 mark, when Lang made an unassisted layup to tie the game at 15. After a Panthers' layup, Suggs hit another 3-pointer, leading to a 12-0 Hornets run from 4:05 to 2:45 left in the half. The Hornets took a 34-19 lead into intermission.
After the break, the Hornets opened the second half with an 11-0 run, and Lynchburg's largest lead reached 29 points.
Greene is the 26th player in program history to amass 1,000 career points.
The Lynchburg men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 25 as the Hornets play host to Alumni Day and take on the Generals of Washington and Lee University with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
