Box Score Winchester, Va. -- Lynchburg earned the match's opening goal, but Shenandoah stole four more as SU defeated the Hornets, 4-1, in Saturday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference action in Winchester.
The game started strong for Lynchburg as Jackie Lerro scored just four minutes into the match. Lerro powered through the Shenandoah defense along the left side and went one-on-one with SU's keeper Katie Garman. Lerro beat Garman, slotting a low strike from about ten feet out. The ball snuck under the pad of Garman and opened the scoring for the match.
Shenandoah drew even about five minutes later as Mairead McKibbin opened the scoring for SU. Shenandoah would go on to score once more in the first quarter and twice in the fourth to finalize the score line.
Lynchburg (12-6, 6-2 ODAC) held the overall advantage on saves with five compared to SU's three. All five saves were made by Lynchburg keeper Kayla Brady. She made three saves in the final frame alone, including an especially dangerous attack on a penalty corner early in the period.
Lerro led the Hornets offensively with four shots, all on goal. Sarah McCollum also recorded a shot for Lynchburg.
The loss slots Lynchburg into third for the upcoming ODAC Tournament, while Shenandoah earned the second seed. Lynchburg will face Bridgewater, the sixth overall seed, in a home quarterfinal match on Tuesday. The time remains to be announced.
