Danville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team saw its seven-match season-opening win streak come to an end Friday afternoon, dropping a 5-4 road decision to Averett on a chilly, windy day.
The host Cougars got out to a hot start with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, but Alissa Anderson and Lauren Pascadlo kept the Hornets in the match with an 8-3 victory at the second flight.
Elizabeth Teefey (No. 2) and Anderson (No. 3) earned straight-set victories for the Hornets, and No. 5 woman Ellen Druebbisch overcame a 3-6 first-set loss to win the second and third at 7-5 each for another big win.
But that's all the Hornets could muster as Averett won at Nos 1, 4, and 6 to seal the match.
It was Lynchburg's first loss since Friday, March 13, 2020.
The Hornets will look to start a new win streak Tuesday when they resume Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at Sweet Briar at 3 p.m.
