Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team's season came to an end Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 loss to Roanoke College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals.
The fourth-seeded Hornets jumped ahead with a pair of wins in doubles play. Graduate student Colton Mullins and senior Vincent Oliver triumphed 8-3 at the No. 1 flight, and the second-flight pair of senior Daniel Christian and sophomore Cooper Brewen won, 8-5.
Roanoke, the tournament's No. 5 seed, quickly took the lead in singles play, however, with wins at Nos. 3, 1, and 4.
Christian got the score back to 4-3 with a 6-2, 7-6 victory at the No. 2 spot, but Roanoke clinched the match with a win at No. 6 and earned the right to advance to a semifinal bout with defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee on Wednesday.
Lynchburg finishes the season with a 7-4 record, their second-straight winning season. This was the first time in program history that the Hornets earned the right to host at ODAC tournament match.
