Box Score Annville, Pa. -- Emily Dudley's hat trick set the tone as the 13th-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team rolled to its first win of the 2021 season, a 5-0 road victory at Lebanon Valley Sunday afternoon.
Dudley started the scoring for the Hornets in the 25th minute thanks to an assist from Aaryn Boatwright. Just five minutes later, Brittany Claybaugh picked the ball out of a scrum and found the back of the cage to send the Hornets into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Dudley took over in the third quarter. In the 32nd minute, the graduate student took a pass from Jackie Lerro for a tap-in goal, and Dudley polished off the hat trick in the 36th minute, scoring unassisted.
Franka Weronek added Lynchburg's fifth tally in the 39th minute, assisted by Emma Strouse.
Hornet goalkeepers Kayla Brady and Kierra Byrd made a save each to split the shutout.
Lynchburg (1-1) will hit the road again Wednesday, Sept. 8 with a trip to Baltimore, Md. for a matchup against No. 3 Johns Hopkins.
