Box Score Collegeville, Pa. -- Freshman Marlou Wendriks registered her first-career hat trick to lead University of Lynchburg's field hockey team to a 7-2 rout of Juniata Sunday afternoon on Ursinus College's Snell Field.
Wendriks had a hand in both of Lynchburg's first-quarter goals, scoring in the fifth minute and assisting Sydney Rowe's goal in the 14th to help the Hornets to a 2-0 advantage after 15 minutes of play.
Wendriks then made it a 3-0 game in the 19th minute, tracking down an Emily Yanes cross and tapping it into the cage. Marina Nadwodny scored again for the Hornets in the second, capping an assist from Meghan Mayo in the 23rd minute that made it a 4-0 game into the halftime break.
Just 43 seconds after the hiatus, Wendriks added her third score – another unassisted goal – to complete the hat trick. Lynchburg continued to pull away with a pair of Brittany Claybaugh goals that made it 7-0.
Juniata broke up the shutout bid in the 49th minute and scored again in the 57th to bring the score to its final tally.
Lynchburg (3-1) will hit the road again Wednesday, this time for Owings Mills, Md. and a midweek date with Stevenson.
