Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's field hockey team cruised to a 5-1 victory over Lebanon Valley Saturday morning behind a hat trick from Emily Yanes and a pair of goals from freshmen in the Hornets' 2022 home opener.
Lynchburg controlled the game from the outset, taking the early lead on Yanes' 11th-minute goal and extending it with another 2 minutes later, the second assisted by Madison Mark.
Lebanon Valley halved the lead midway through the second period, but Lynchburg quickly earned more breathing room. Yanes finished her hat trick with her third goal of the contest in the 23rd minute, and freshman Sydney Rowe poured it on with a 27th-minute score assisted by Brooke Hyland to take a 4-1 lead into the halftime break.
After a scoreless third quarter, another Hornet freshman, Marlou Wendriks, put a bow on the victory with her first-career goal in the 48th minute.
The Hornets out-shot LVC by a 26-5 margin and had an 8-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Lynchburg (2-0) will break for the week before heading to Collegeville, Pa. for weekend contests with Ursinus and Juniata Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
