Men's basketball's comeback falls short against Salisbury

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's basketball nearly mounted a comeback against Salisbury on Wednesday afternoon but came up short in the end by a score of 83-69.

Trey Pittman collected 19 points and six boards, and Jordan Parham turned in 12 points as the two highest scorers on the day for Lynchburg.

Pittman had 13 points in the opening 20 minutes on 5-9 (55.6%) shooting from the floor with three free throws. However, the Seagulls led the whole first half and took a seven-point lead into the break.

Lynchburg kept things close throughout the opening minutes of the second. With 14:04 left to play, Piercen Young grabbed an offensive board and found Miles Taylor in the corner for a 3. Parham nailed a jumper shortly after and brought the Hornets within three points of the lead. Young led the team with eight boards, and Taylor finished with nine points on 50% (4-8) shooting from the floor.

Jayson Easton was fouled on a deep ball and sank all three free throws, and Pittman made a jumper to stay within three of Salisbury at the midway point of the final half. Easton nailed a 3 which brought the Hornets within two, 63-61, a few possessions later.

The Seagulls outscored the Hornets 20-8 after Easton's shot from downtown to put the game out of reach.

The Hornets (4-9, 1-3 ODAC) return to conference play on Saturday, Jan. 7 in Bridgewater at 4:30 p.m.
