Men's golf wraps up successful fall season

Sandestin, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule with a third-place finish at the Golfweek October Classic. 

The Hornets defeated No. 1-ranked Emory by two strokes and edged out nine other teams ranked ahead of them in the Golf Coaches Association of America poll.

It was Lynchburg's third instance placing third in a tournament this fall and its fourth top-5 finish of the season. 

The Hornets shot the best score of the third round from any team Tuesday at -6 and accumulated a +9 score overall. The Hornets carded a 291 in Round 1, a 292 in Round 2, and a 278 in Round 3 for a three-day score of 861. 

Eddie Coffren V (68-72-70--210) earned his fourth-straight finish in the top-5 this season and tied for fourth in the 125-player field. His 2.40 average on the par-3s was the best in the tournament and helped the Hornets lead the pack with an average of 2.92 on the short holes. 

Harrison Smith (72-75-69--216) moved up 17 spots on Day 3 and tied for 20th. He tied his career-low with a 69 on Tuesday. His 37 pars were also tied for the seventh-most in the tournament. 

Tate Corbett (79-75-67--221) and Andrew Watson (76-73-72--221) tied for 44th. Corbett's 67 in Round 3 shattered his career-low by four strokes and helped him move up 47 spots on the leaderboard from Monday to Tuesday. 

Alan Van Asch (75-72-75--222) rounded out Lynchburg's travel party in a tie for 53rd.
