Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team finished out its fall schedule with its best performance of the season, taking third place in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Invitational, hosted by Guilford at The Cardinal by Pete Dye.
Although the tournament was planned to be a two-day, 36-hole event, the invitational was cut short due to weather conditions and the competition was forced to conclude after round one. The Hornets, currently ranked No. 33 in the Scoreboard Clippd rankings and No. 18 in the Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, finished with a team composite score of 20 over par to take third. Huntingdon claimed the top spot at +11, while Methodist slotted in second at +18.
Junior
Ben Chamberlin was the best individual performer for the Hornets, tying for fifth overall with 74 strokes, just three over par. The Germantown, Md. native was consistent throughout, hitting par on two thirds of the holes and notching two birdies. Senior
Alan Van Asch was the next top placer for Lynchburg, finishing two strokes behind Chamberlin to tie for 21st overall.
Sophomores
Cooper Mizelle and
Dylan Olinger each concluded at +6, just one more stroke than Van Asch, to tie for 30th as individuals. Senior
Joey Easmeil finished at +8 for 48th, while freshman
Sean Grzebin Jr. rounded out Lynchburg performers at 107th with a +18 final score.
The Hornets have ended their fall campaign and look ahead to their spring slate. The men's golf 2026 spring schedule will be released at a later date.
