PINEHURST, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team captured a sixth-place finish at the Tiger Invitational at Forest Creek Golf Club.
The Hornets competed in three rounds across two days, posting scores of +4 in the opening round, -2 in round two, and +5 in the final round for a combined team score of +7. Alan Van Asch (-3) and Cooper Mizelle (-1) each recorded top-10 individual finishes, tying for sixth and ninth place, respectively.
Van Asch and Mizelle led the way for Lynchburg in the opening round, each carding an even-par 72. Ben Chamberlin finished just behind the duo with a 73 (+1). Bryce Jones rounded out the scoring four for the Hornets with a 75 (+3), bouncing back after opening his round with five bogeys across his first six holes.
In the second round, Van Asch delivered the strongest individual performance for Lynchburg with a 68 (-4). Mizelle added another even-par 72, joined by Chamberlin with a matching 72. Joey Easmeil improved his first-round score by five strokes, carding a 74 (+2) to help the Hornets post their best round of the tournament.
To conclude the two-day event, Mizelle recorded his best round at Forest Creek with a 71 (-1), highlighted by an eagle on the 10th hole. Easmeil also eagled the 10th and finished the round with a 73 (+2). Van Asch (73) and Chamberlin (75) again rounded out Lynchburg's scoring.
Methodist captured the team title with a score of -13, followed by Huntingdon at -7. Sewanee (+2) and Emory (+2) tied for third place.
