Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team is one win away from winning the NCAA Division III 2023 baseball national championship!
With play beginning Thursday, June 2, the Hornets have slashed their way through the bracket so far with four wins and by outscoring opponents 28-12. Lynchburg defeated No. 1-ranked Johns Hopkins in a Game 1 of best-of-three series on Wednesday, June 7 by a score of 5-2 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at PG Cares Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Lynchburg lost Game 2 to Johns Hopkins 11-6. A winner-take-all Game 3 begins at 3:50 p.m. EST for all the marbles and a national championship trophy.

The Hornets earned the No. 3 seed in the eight-team field at the beginning of the championship with program-record 43 wins. The eight teams were separated into two pods. Lynchburg was grouped with UW-La Crosse, Salisbury, and East Texas Baptist. Johns Hopkins drew Baldwin Wallace, Endicott, and Misericordia. The Blue Jays went 3-1 to get out of their pod, and Lynchburg swept competition with a 3-0 record to earn a spot in the championship series. Lynchburg is the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference baseball team to play in the final series.
Lynchburg won its 10th ODAC trophy on its way to earning an automatic berth into the 60-team postseason tournament: ODAC championship recap. The Hornets were sent to Rocky Mount, N.C. for a regional with N.C. Wesleyan, Lebanon Valley, and Elizabethtown. Lynchburg won that regional in four games: Rocky Mount regional recap.
