Men beat and women tie Roanoke

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's swimming team defeated Roanoke 157-105, and the women's swimming team tied Roanoke 131-131 on Saturday afternoon.

The men won their second-straight meet against the Maroons, and the women moved to 1-3-1 against Roanoke. It was the first tie by the men or the women in a dual meet in either program's history.

The Hornets kicked off the meet with a sweep of the 200-yard medley relay. Lindsey Hair, Claire Galloway, Regan Leach, and Savy Borroughs went 1:51.90 in the women's relay for first place, and Colton Schnars, Ryan Bambrick, Miles West, and Tyler Caten went 1:35.57 in the men's relay.

The Maroons won the next five events, Miles West and Galloway stopped the streak. West won the 100-yard backstroke, and Galloway won her 11th-career event for the Hornets in the 100-yard breaststroke. Maxi Jacquet, in his Lynchburg debut, touched the wall at 54.11 in the 100 back to place second behind West.

Freshman Bambrick and Andrew Fiore won their events with Bambrick winning the men's 100-yard breaststroke at 59.35, and Fiore going 1:59.98 to win the 200-yard butterfly.

Schnars and Borroughs swept the 50-yard freestyle going 21.52 and 24.30, respectively. The two freestylers also won the 100-yard freestyle events.

Erik Witt won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.99, and Galloway claimed another event win in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing in 2:29.50. Bambrick also grabbed a second event victory going 2:12.02 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

West became the fifth Hornet to win multiple events on the day with a 52.12 in the 100-yard butterfly.

The women prevented the full Maroon comeback by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay thanks to a 1:39.50 from Galloway, Madelyn Foreman, Borroughs, and Schorr. The men put the finishing touches on their dominant win with a 1:26.40 from West, Schnars, Ryan Legge, and Tyler Caten

Lynchburg has one more dual meet before heading to Greensboro, N.C. for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships. The Hornets take on Southern Virginia in Lexington, Va. on Saturday, Jan. 27.
