Lexington, Va. --Â The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams turned in a standout performance at the ODAC Relays on Saturday, combining depth and energy across a full day of relay action at Washington and Lee University.
Both squads showed out at this year's ODAC Relays, majorly outscoring their previous results from last season. The women's group scored 319 total points to take second place of the seven-school field, 57 points higher than in 2024. The men's crew additionally outperformed last year's result, scoring 349 points overall for third place out of nine, 69 points better than last season.
The men's squad produced several highlight moments, led by Wyatt Dacus, Henry Brooks, Patrick Puzon, Adam Fisher, Tyler Caten, and Jacob Andrews. The group opened the meet with a strong second-place showing in the 4x25 freestyle relay at 39.72, just behind Washington and Lee. Additionally, 28 total Hornets on the men's side took part in the 200 freestyle relay, with the ream of Dacus, Fisher, Puzon, and Brooks taking second overall with a time of 1:26.45.
Later, the Hornets delivered one of the most exciting races of the afternoon -Â a second-place finish in the 4x25 underwater relay. The momentum carried into multiple top-three efforts, including third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.92) behind strong splits from Fisher, Andrews, Dacus, and Brooks.
On the women's side, Lynchburg's depth shined through as the team captured two relay victories, marking a huge moment in the meet. The Hornets opened the day with a win in the 4x25 freestyle relay at 46.90, edging Washington and Lee. Later, Lynchburg's team of Gracie Maughan, Eliza Fleenor, and Abigail Schneider claimed gold in the 3x50 breaststroke relay with a 1:35.19 finish.
Sophia Schorr, Sienna Schmeck, Fleenor, Sydney Weeks, Schneider, and Lilly Pifer all turned in standout performances across multiple events, contributing key legs to several top finishes, including runner-up efforts in the backstroke and IM relays and a top-five showing in the 400 freestyle relay.
With strong results throughout, Lynchburg showcased its team strength and chemistry to open the season with momentum and confidence. The Hornets will have a brief break in their schedule before taking a trip back to Lexington for a dual meet against Washington and Lee on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
