Men's And Women's Swimming Earn Victories Over Bridgewater

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams capped a stellar weekend with assertive triumphs against Bridgewater on Saturday, highlighted by several multiple-event winners and thrilling races from start to finish.

The Hornets' women's team defeated the Eagles by a decisive score of 176-86, while the men's group earned the win with a 145-116 final score. Combined, Lynchburg claimed 16 first-place finishes across the 28 events, with the women's crew taking nine top spots and the men's team snagging seven. Jackson Holsten was electric for the Hornets, sweeping three events with commanding wins in the 1000 freestyle (10:29.13), 500 freestyle (4:58.07), and 200 backstroke. His back-to-back victories in the 1000 and 200 were a remarkable showcase of endurance and competitive drive.

On the women's side, Gracie Maughan matched the triple-win feat, taking first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.56), 200 breaststroke (2:30.26), and contributing to a victorious 400 medley relay effort. Abigail Schneider followed up her strong showing from Friday's meet with three more impressive individual swims, including a win in the 100 backstroke (1:03.87).

Eliza Fleenor added valuable points and energy with a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.01) and a key leg on the women's B 400 medley relay squad that pulled off a memorable result, beating Lynchburg's A team with a 4:14.06 finish. The Hornets also swept both 400 freestyle relays to close the meet, underscoring their depth across events.

For the men, Thomas Olson had one of his best meets in a Lynchburg cap, scoring crucial top-three finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Freshman Ben Loughmiller had a standout performance as a first-year athlete, earning top-three placements in the 100 backstroke (third, 57.50), 200 backstroke (third, 2:05.36) and the 200 medley relay (third, 3:40.09). Rylee Champney and Mason Cooper, along with several other underclassmen, produced solid results throughout to showcase Lynchburg's young talent as the Hornets secured a commanding team win.
