Women's Swim Places First, Men's Takes Fourth At VMI Ketdet Invite

Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg swimming program turned in a strong team performance at the 2025 Keydet Invitational, highlighted by a women's team title and several standout individual and relay finishes. Lynchburg's women totaled 664.5 points, finishing atop a competitive field that included VMI, Milligan, Roanoke, and Bridgewater.

Lynchburg opened the weekend with multiple impactful relay swims. The women's 200 medley relay earned the meet victory in 1:48.20, securing 40 points. The Hornets added another relay win in the 400 medley relay, touching in 3:58.08 behind the quartet of Abigail Schneider, Gracie Maughan, Sydney Weeks, and Sophia Schorr. Lynchburg later closed the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:32.35, earning another 40 points.

Individually, Lynchburg saw strong performances across the board. Eliza Fleenor and Kailen Craddock delivered a one–two finish in the 200 IM, with Fleenor winning in 2:17.20. Maughan highlighted the breaststroke group with a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:25.55, while Fleenor (fifth) and Schneider (sixth) added important points.

The women's 200 freestyle group advanced three swimmers into finals, led by Sienna Schmeck's prelim time of 1:59.94, with Lilly Pifer and Giuli Soria also qualifying. In the 100 butterfly, Weeks qualified third in 59.38, and Lynchburg advanced five swimmers overall into evening competition.

On the men's side, the Hornets placed fourth overall with 370 points. Henry Brooks led the way with a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke at 1:52.27. The men's 200 medley relay also secured valuable points with a fifth-place performance in 1:34.85. Jackson Holsten added a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle B final with a time of 1:43.15, while several others contributed through depth scoring across multiple events.

The Hornets have a brief break in their schedule before returning to action in the new year against Mary Washington for the squad's Code Red on Saturday, Jan. 27 at noon.
