Douglasville, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team had senior
Eddie Coffren V and junior
Simon Burgos place among the top 10 of the 105-player field and help the squad earn second place at the West Pines Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe on Monday and Tuesday.
In the Hornets' second fall competition of the year, Coffren finished even through three rounds and earned himself a sixth-place finish. After ending the first 18 one over, the Owings, Md. native got back to par with a -1 finish in the second round. He rounded out the invite with an even finish in round three to claim sixth, the top finish for Lynchburg.
Burgos showed out as well, placing one spot behind Coffren at seventh overall with a +1 finish. Following a +3 finish in the first round, the Raleigh, N.C. native bounced back with a -2 score in the second round and an even finish in the tournament's final round.
The other performing Hornets also had solid scores to close out the invitational. Sophomore
Ben Chamberlin claimed 13th place after finishing even in the first two rounds and +4 in the final 18 holes. Junior
Alan Van Asch tied for 17th with a +5 ending score, highlighted by a -2 round in the last 18 holes of the invite. Freshman
Cooper Mizelle rounded out the Lynchburg performers with a 33rd-place finish, his best round coming at the end of the invite with three under in the third round.
"Really proud of how the guys played this week," said head coach Allen Smith. "We are very excited to carry this momentum to Destin!"
The next competition for the men's golf crew will be the GolfWeek October Classic, taking place from Sunday, October 13 through Tuesday, October 15 at the San Destin Resort in Destin, Fla.
