Danville, Ky. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams squared up against the likes of Centre, DePauw, and John Carroll in the Battle In The Bluegrass event, hosted by Centre.
"The Battle in the Bluegrass gave our team the unique experience to compete in multiple events against high-quality competition," said head coach
Brad Dunn. "We're excited to see this style of meet pay dividends when we get to championship season."
The Hornets stacked up against high-level competition this weekend in bluegrass state. In the first meet against Centre, the men's squad fell, 144-93, while the women's team lost 177-60. Despite the loss, the Lynchburg crew tallied seven first-place finishes across the board. The men's 200 yard medley relay, consisting of sophomores
Maximo Jacquet and
Ryan Bambrick, and seniors
Miles West and
Will Kasemeyer, notched the top finish with a time of 1:35.46.
Kasemeyer grabbed another first place in the men's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.20, while West finished first with a 53.41 time in the men's 100 yard butterfly. Jacquet claimed the top spot with a time of 52.84 in the men's 100 yard backstroke. Freshman
Connor Marshall rounded out first-place finishers on the men's side with a time of 4:23.13 in the men's 400 yard IM. For the women, senior
Savy Borroughs and freshman
Eliza Fleenor each grabbed first in their respective events. Borroughs finished first in the women's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.09 while Fleenor claimed first in the women's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.28.
The Hornets grabbed seven top finishes again in its meet versus DePauw. The men's 400 yard medley squad, comprised of the same group as in the Centre meet, took first again with a final time of 3:35.39. Marshall claimed the top spots in the men's 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:15.48 and the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.10. Bambrick finished first in the men's 200 yard IM with a time of 2:02.82 and in the men's 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.98. Jacquet had the top time of 2:02.39 in the men's 200 yard backstroke. Fleenor earned first in the women's 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:32.06 finish.
In a loss to John Carroll, the Lynchburg squad claimed a first place finish in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.19. The team comprised of Borroughs, junior

Madelyn Foreman, and freshman
Sienna Schmeck.Â
Next time out, the Hornets will host Washington and Lee for an ODAC dual meet on Saturday, November 16, beginning at noon.
