Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams produced a strong showing on the second day of the ODAC Championships, including a first-place finish in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay on Thursday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
After two days of competition, both the men's and women's Hornet squads sit in second place behind WLU with 201.5 and 197 points, respectively. The evening finals session opened with the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relay, where Lynchburg's quartet of
Sydney Weeks,
Eliza Fleenor,
Sienna Schmeck, and
Sophia Schorr touched first in 1:36.05 to capture a championship in the event. The team of
Henry Brooks,
Tyler Caten,
Wyatt Dacus, and
Adam Fisher finished third overall on the men's side with a time of 1:23.19, securing valuable early momentum.
In the men's 500-yard freestyle,
Jackson Holsten led the Hornets with a fourth-place finish in the A final, swimming a 4:38.22.
Ahmad Woodson followed with a seventh-place finish in 4:48.25, while
Connor Marshall placed 10th overall after coming second his heat in the B final.
Keegan Williamson also added points with a 15th-place finish. In the women's 500 free,
Lilly Pifer took eighth while
Charlotte Grieve earned 11th overall.
Lynchburg continued to collect strong finishes in the individual medley events.
Logan Page tied for third in the men's 200-yard IM with a time of 1:53.30, while
Ryan Bambrick finished eighth.
Andrew Fiore took eighth and
Erik Witt finished close behind in 13th. On the women's side,
Abigail Schneider earned fifth in the 200-yard IM, with
Gracie Maughan and
Regan Leach finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.
Sprint events also featured Lynchburg depth, as
Adam Fisher and
Wyatt Dacus tied for seventh in the men's 50-yard freestyle. Caten was close behind in ninth and
Jacob Andrews placed 14th. In the women's 50-yard freestyle,
Sophia Schorr had an impressive second-place finish, while
Sienna Schmeck and
Sydney Weeks shared fourth. The night closed with the medley relays, where the men's 400-yard medley relay placed fourth and the women's relay earned a runner-up finish.
The Hornets jump back into action tomorrow morning for more preliminary rounds starting at 10 a.m., then finals starting at 6 p.m.
