Raleigh, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams each earned first-place finishes at the conclusion of the two-day Pacer Invitational, hosted by William Peace this past weekend at the Pullen Aquatic Center.
The Hornets had a spectacular showing at the event, topping the leaderboard in a field of 10 total teams and breaking records along the way. The men's squad finished with 1,946.5 total points while the women totaled 2,048.5 points. The women's crew earned a stellar nine gold medals while also snagging four silver and nine bronze medals.
Abby Schneider had the second-most points overall on the women's side with 118 score, grabbing three gold and three bronze medals.
Sienna Schmeck (109 points) and
Charlotte Grieve (108 points) earned the fourth and fifth highest point total, respectively.
Schneider raced a personal-best 4:45.08 in the 400-yard IM and notched season-best times in the 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard IM. Schmeck produced her top collegiate times in the 50-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke, and 200-yard freestyle. Grive claimed her top times of the season in six different events.
Eliza Fleenor had the ninth-best total of points with 101 while producing personal-best efforts in three events and season-best times in two events.
Lindsay Hanks (13th),
Caroline Inskeep (14th),
Madelyn Foreman (16th), and
Regan Leach (19th) rounded out women's performers inside the top-20 for individual points.
On the men's side, the Hornets had
Connor Marshall,
Miles West,
Maximo Jacquet, and
Ryan Bambrick place inside the top-10 for individual points at the invitational. Marshall and West were sixth and seventh, respectively, while Jacquet placed ninth and Bambrick earned 10th.
Marshall claimed a personal-best time in the 400-yard freestyle relay as leadoff with a time of 49.18. He also clocked in five season-best times across all of his events this weekend. West earned five silver medals and one bronze medal for the most by a Hornet performer on the men's side, claiming five of his best times of the season along the way. Jacquet earned four personal-best times en rout to five silver medals, while Bambrick notched three of his top times of the season and a collegiate-best time of 4:15.66 in the 400-yard IM.

Lynchburg had one of its best showings of the season this past weekend, a great way to head into a brief break in the season. The next competition for the Hornets will be after the new year at Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday, January 18 at noon.
