Pinehurst, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team tied with Hampden-Sydney and Wittenberg for 11th in the Tiger Invite at Forest Creek on Monday.
Lynchburg, the fourth-ranked team in Division III, carded rounds of 302 and 303 for a total of 605 in the 18-team tournament. The Hornets got a pair of top-25 finishes from Andrew Watson (72-75--147) and Eddie Coffren V (74-74--148) Watson shot even par through 18 holes and was in a 10-way tie for fifth after making four birdies. He made three birdies in a row on holes 8, 9 and 10. The latter two were par-5s, but Watson had the second-best score in the tournament on par-4s with an average of 3.9. Watson tied for 13th. Coffren V made five birdies across the two days and made six straight pars to open play on Monday. He tied for 16th.
Simon Burgos (78-75--153) moved up 13 spots on the leaderboard Monday to earn a tie for 42nd. Ben Chamberlin (78-79--157) tied for 63rd and birdied the first two holes of his second round Monday. Harrison Smith (83-79--162) tied for 77th to round out the Hornet squad.
The Hornets hit Saint Simons Island, Ga. for their next tournament, the Jekyll Collegiate, beginning Friday, March 22.
