Greensboro, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg women's swimming graduate student Claire Galloway placed 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA 2024 Division III swimming championships on Friday evening.Â
In the consolation finals, Galloway tied the Old Dominion Athletic Conference 100 breast record with a 1:03.24 improving upon her lifetime-best and school record in the event. The top-8 finishers in the event are named All-America, and with her 13th-place finish, Galloway earned honorable mention All-America honors.Â
Galloway qualified for the consolation finals after finishing 15th overall during prelims swimming a 1:03.37. She was seeded 20th in the event to start the day with a seed time of 1:03.61.
Galloway finished fifth in the consolation final, and her swim earned Lynchburg four points towards the standings at the national championship. She is the first Lynchburg women's swimmer to earn points at the championship meet in program history, the first Lynchburg swimmer to qualify for a finals swim, and she was the first Lynchburg swimmer to be invited to the NCAA championships. Over her five years at Lynchburg, she won nine Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships including four consecutive 100 breast titles. In 2020, she helped lead the women's swimming team to its first team conference title.Â

On Wednesday, Galloway made her NCAA championship debut in the 50-yard freestyle. She will also swim in the 200-yard breaststroke prelims on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m.
