Saint Simons Island, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team placed ninth out of 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate on Sunday.
Over three rounds, the No. 5 Hornets carded 289-292-307 for a three-day total of 888. The Hornets finished two strokes behind eighth-place Hampden-Sydney and six positions behind Guilford. Lynchburg beat the four other Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams in the field.
Andrew Watson (67-74-74--215) earned his best finish of the year with a tie for fifth. He made five birdies in Round 1 as he shot a season-low 67.
Eddie Coffren V (71-70-77--218) tied for 18th. He made eight birdies on the weekend including four when he fired a 70 in Round 2.
Alan Van Asch (73-73-78--224) returned to the lineup with a tie for 44th. Harrison Smith (82-75-78--235) tied for 113th, and Simon Burgos (78-75-83--236) tied for 117th in the 150-player field.
Lynchburg had the second best score as a unit on the par 5s with a total score of -8. Watson made the fifth-most birdies in the field with 12.
The Hornets wrap up the regular season at the 51st Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate beginning Friday, April 5.
