Boulder City, Nev. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team made the cut at the NCAA 2024 Division III men's golf championship on Wednesday.
Playing in their first NCAA championship since 1989, the Hornets fired rounds of 281 (-7) and 301 (+13) over the first two days of the national tournament. While 43 teams were in the tournament to begin the week, the top-18 after Wednesday earned the right to continue playing, meaning Lynchburg's 10th-place positioning keeps the Hornets in Nevada for another two days and 36 more holes of championship golf.
The Hornets are led by Eddie Coffren V who is -1 for the tournament and in 20th. Simon Burgos and Alan Van Asch are both tied for 44th at +1, Andrew Watson is tied for 79th, and Harrison Smith is tied for 199th.
The Hornets made nine birdies in Round 2 led by three from Watson and Smith. Burgos and Watson also made eagles.
Lynchburg played on The Legacy Golf Club course which played much harder than the Boulder Creek Golf Club layout on Tuesday. Lynchburg dropped five spots in the standings, and Emory, the first-place team after Round 1, dropped four spots Tuesday which was the second-highest score of any of the 18 teams to make the cut.
