Boulder City, Nev. -- The University of Lynchburg men's golf team placed 11th at the NCAA 2024 Division III men's golf championship on Friday after making its first appearance in the national championship since 1989.
The Hornets finished at +9 with a 1161 (281-301-290-289).
Individually, Eddie Coffren V, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference golfer of the year, tied for 11th overall at -4 (284). Coffren V posted a 71 on Friday to go with earlier rounds of 67, 76, and 70.
Much like in Round 3, all play over the final 18 holes was conducted at Boulder Creek Golf Club. Boulder Creek plays to a par of 72 at 7,377 yards.
Lynchburg's five players were also excellent for a second day running with no golfer scoring higher than +2. Alan Van Asch posted an even-par 72 to tie for 24th overall at even-par 288 (69-76-71-72). Simon Burgos and Andrew Watson each closed with 73s. Burgos tied for 54th at =6 (72-73-76-73) and Watson tied for 60th at +7 (73-76-73-73). Harrison Smith improved each day with a final round of 74 to finish 93rd at +27 (83-82-76-74).
Methodist University tracked down Carnegie Mellon University to claim the team title by one stroke over the Tartans at -21(271-295-284-281--1131).
Oglethorpe University's Michael O'Sullivan was atop the leaderboard -- tied or solo -- for the final three rounds and held off a -5 charge by Methodist's Cooper Hrabak to claim the individual medal by one stroke at -12 (66-70-71-69).
