Bryn Mawr, Pa. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team dropped its first contest of the season against No. 22 Bryn Mawr, 4-1, at Shillingford Field on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 10 Hornets (4-1) lost their first match of the season in their second outing in as many days. The Owls scored quickly just 32 seconds into the matchup and followed it up with another goal before the end of the first period, giving Bryn Mawr a 2 goal lead after 15 minutes. At the 20:53-mark, midfielder
Allie Freeman fired a penalty corner to forward
Callie Short, who struck the ball with force toward the goal. Freeman got a piece of the ball and sent it up and into the net, bringing Lynchburg within one of the Owls.
Although the Hornets had 12 shots and eight on goal in the contest, they were only able to convert one of their shots to goals. Bryn Mawr scored twice at the 28:32-mark and the 31:03-mark to go ahead by three, a lead that was kept for the remainder of the affair.
Lynchburg has two more road competitions before returning home to begin conference play. The Hornets are set to head back to Pennsylvania next weekend for games against York on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. and Susquehanna on Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live and have live stats available.
