Lynchburg Returned To Action Against Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams resumed their season after over a month away with a dual meet at Mary Washington on Saturday. The men's side narrowly lost in a hard-fought battle, 134-128, and the women's crew also fell, 209-53.

The Hornets got things back into gear with a tough competition this weekend. The men's team had a strong showing with eight first-place finishes. Maximo Jacquet was a top performer for the Hornets, placing first in all four of the races that he participated in. Jacquet was the first legs of the 200 yard medley relay team that finished in 1:36.20 and 200 yard freestyle team that finished in 1:27.16. He also grabbed the top spot in the 200 yard backstroke (1:58.60) and the 100 yard backstroke (52.29). 

Miles West was the third leg in both of the aforementioned first-place finishing relay teams. West also claimed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.97 and the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.10. Connor Marshall also had a strong performance in the meet, finishing first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.51 and second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.11.

On the women's side, Sienna Schmeck claimed three second-place finishes and one third-place spot in today's meet. She earned second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.08 and in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.64. Schmeck was also the final legs of a 200 yard freestyle relay crew that place second (1:41.23) and a 200 yard medley team that placed third (1:54.07). Abigail Scneider had a solid showing with a second place finish in the 200 yard IM (2:14.64) and a third place rank in the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.96). Eliza Fleenor also showed out with three third-place finishes: a 1:54.07 time in the 200 yard medley relay, a 1:09.79 time in the 100 yard breaststroke, and a time of 2:33.43 in the 200 yard breaststroke. 

Next up for the Hornets is a home meet, where they will welcome Southern Virginia on Saturday, January 25 at noon.
