Danville, Va. -- The Hornets snapped a two-game losing skid in emphatic fashion, defeating Averett 87-57 on the road.
Michael Gray and Tyler Buggs led the Lynchburg offense in scoring, tallying 17 and 14, respectively. Elijah Thomas and Jamarcus Brown also reached double figures while playing a key defensive role. Brown rejected three shots and collected one steal on the night. Thomas finished with a season-high three steals and five rebounds.
Lynchburg jumped out to an early advantage in the first half, capitalizing on the Cougars' turnovers and scoring in transition. The Hornets finished the night with 22 points in transition and off turnovers. Once Lynchburg held onto a firm lead, physical and relentless defense kept them out in front. Lynchburg held Averett to just 31% shooting from the floor and 21% from three, the lowest opponent percentages this season.
Six different Hornets recorded five or more rebounds as the team controlled the glass with 45 rebounds collectively.
Offensively, the Hornets tied for the second-best field goal percentage (50%) in a game this season and fifth-best three-point percentage (38.9%). Thomas led the attack from the perimeter, cashing in on both attempts beyond the arc. Jake Hart distributed a game-high six assists while also grabbing five boards and scoring nine points.
Lynchburg improves to 10-7 (4-4) with wins in three of their last four ODAC road contests. The Hornets will play their next game at home against the Washington & Lee Generals (4-12) this Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4:30 p.m.
