Boston --Â Chasen Hunt clocked the third-fastest men's 3k time in DIII history at the Valentine Invitational on Friday, highlighting another record-breaking weekend for the Lynchburg indoor track & field teams.
The Hornets competed in four separate meets across the two days as several athletes sought different fields of competition. Lynchburg's distance squad traveled to Boston to compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, while the men's DMR squad competed at the Tufts Stampede Open across town. The remainder of the squad competed at the Joe LaRocco Invitational in Salem, Va., excluding select athletes who stayed home to compete at Liberty's Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
To begin the weekend, Chasen Hunt clocked 7:56.92 in the men's 3k to crush the previous conference record by ten seconds. His result is third in the Division III history books, becoming one of only five athletes to break the eight-minute mark in DIII.
Hunt also assisted in the men's distance medley relay on Saturday, where the Hornets finished with a 9:50.86 result to win the event. Marko Kovacevic, Michael Hamm, Tor Hotung-Davidsen and Chasen Hunt competed for Lynchburg's "A" squad as the Hornets battled stellar DIII competition including MIT, Johns Hopkins and SUNY Geneseo.
Tor Hotung-Davidsen recorded the fourth-fastest time in program history for the men's 800m run with a 1:50.58 finish. Just weeks ago, Hotung-Davidsen ran 1:50.39 at Wittenberg's Steemer Showcase, which was the 15th-best time in DIII history.
In the men's 400m dash, Jacob Hodnett missed his personal best by eight-hundredths of a second, finishing in 49.10 seconds. Michael Hamm set a PR with a 49.49 result.
Allison Dell garnered the third-fastest women's 5k time in program history with a 17:10.49 finish. Hannah Edwards also joined the top-ten list in the women's 800, clocking 2:17.97.
At Liberty, freshmen Alex Jordan and Cameron Sidebotham cracked the top ten against strong Division I competition in the Darius Dixon Memorial men's 3k. Jordan clocked 8:30.78 while Sidebotham earned an 8:31.37 result, finishing with a pair of personal bests in ninth and 10th, respectively.
Allison Bobst finished ninth in the women's pole vault section B finals with an 11' 3¾" (3.45m) mark. She also competed on Saturday at Roanoke College, finishing second with an 11' 2½" (3.42m) mark.
To cap the busy weekend, Lynchburg garnered several podium finishes at the Joe LaRocco Invitational just two weeks from the ODAC Championships. The conference meet is held at Roanoke College's Kerr-Cregger Field House on a flat track.
Tristan Wright continued his dominant freshman campaign by earning first place in the men's 60m dash, clocking 6.83 in finals. Wright also finished third in the men's 200m dash with a 22.56 mark, while Haylen Jones finished fourth in 22.59.
Betsy Mohnkern earned second place in the women's 60m hurdle finals (8.99), while Rylee Turner finished fourth in the women's 60m dash finals (8.06). Turner recorded a personal-best 8.01 result in prelims, qualifying her for the program's top-ten list for the event.
On the distance side, Adelynn Carpenter clocked 10:40.81 in her indoor debut to finish first in the women's 3k. Delaney Saulsbury joined the podium with a 10:45.31 personal best for third. For the men, Alex Paciello utilized a speedy final lap to finish ninth with an 8:59.45 performance.Â
In field events, Margo Fox topped the podium in the women's long jump (17' 4¼" or 5.29m), while Elijah Rose and Jaren Lee tied for first place in the men's high jump (6' 6¼" or 1.99m). The duo's mark sits inside the top 35 results in DIII. Demetri Hinton also found the podium in the men's triple jump with a 44' 2¾" (13.48m) mark.Â
Kenzie Swicegood finished fifth in the women's shot put (37' 4" or 11.38m) and ninth in the women's weight throw with a 46' 10¾" (14.29m) mark. Â
