Lynchburg, Va. -- The Hornets claimed a dominant victory in their Code Red matchup against cross-town rival Randolph, 106-78.
Piercen Young led the way for Lynchburg, setting a new career-high with 27 points. Sophomore guard Michael Gray tallied 21 points for the Hornets on eight-of-13 shooting from the field with four triples. Jamarcus Brown also reached double figures with 11 points to go along with three steals.
Brown got the party started for Lynchburg in the opening moments, begging the contest with an ally-oop jam off of an assist from Jake Hart. From that point on, Lynchburg would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game. The Hornets would lead by as many as 37 later in the second half.
The Hornets shot the lights out throughout the game, finishing the affair with 57% from the field. In tandem with scoring, Lynchburg moved the ball exceptionally well, with the second most assists this season, 22.
Defensively, the Hornets claimed their second-most steals in a game this season with 11 on the night. Brown, Hart, and Jonathan Foust each collected three a piece. Lynchburg controlled the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Randolph 38-26m with 12 on the offensive end. Those 12 offensive rebounds resulted in 19 second chance points.
While the Wildcats struggled to contain the Lynchburg offense, ODAC leading scorer Jordan Phillips-McLoyd and freshman Timothy James Jr. each scored 23 points.
Lynchburg will play at home for their next two games, starting with Shenandoah this Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m.
