Men's And Women's Golf Compete At Jekyll Island Invitational

Jekyll Island, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's golf teams took part in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe University. The men's squad played at the Jekyll Island GC and placed seventh of 30 teams while the women's crew played at the King and Prince GC and placed 19th of 24 teams.

On the men's side, senior Eddie Coffren V topped the team with a terrific performance that tied him for 10th overall of the 150-person field. After the first round, Coffren finished each nine at one under, including an eagle on hole 18, and concluded the day two under par. He upped his game in the second round by ending at three under par with six birdies on the day. The senior finished the final round at three over to end the invitational at two under par.

Junior Simon Burgos was the second-best finisher for the Hornets, concluding the invitational even with par to tie for 15th overall. After a -1 performance on day one, he went one over on the second day and even in the final round. Junior Joey Easmeil closed the invitational third on the team with a +1 finish to tie for 22nd overall. Easmeil finished strong with a -3 performance on the last round of the event.

Junior Alan Van Asch was fourth on the squad with a +6 finish, ending on a high note at two under in the third round. Freshman Dylan Olinger rounded out the men's team with a +19 finish for the invitational.

For the women's crew, junior Lily Rowe was the top finisher for the Hornets, tying for 38th overall of the 120-person field. She had solid performances in the latter two rounds with +4 and +3 finishes, respectively. Sophomore Madelyn Linares was the next best performer for Lynchburg, finishing tied for 74th overall at +34.

Freshman Grace Saunders tied for 92nd overall with a +43 finish. Graduate Sydney Pickell and senior Emma Nicol rounded out Hornet athletes on the women's side with +54 and +55 finishes, respectively. 

Next up on the slate for the men's team is the Capital City Invitational in Prattville, Ala. from Monday, April 7 through Tuesday, April 8. The women's team will head to the Max & Susan Stith Invitational in Richmond, Va. from Sunday, March 30 through Tuesday, April 1.
