Colorado Springs, Colo. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team earned a 17th-place ranking in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll for the preseason, released on Tuesday morning.
Prior to the start of the regular season, the Hornets were selected as the No. 17 team in the nation across the division with 172 points. Last season, Lynchburg ranked as high as the No. 10 team in the country and maintained a spot within the top 15 throughout the entirety of the regular season and conference post season.
Lynchburg and Shenandoah are the sole teams in the ODAC that earned a spot inside the top 25 for the preseason rankings. SU was allotted 264 points to place 11th in the rankings. The top three squads to start the year included Middlebury atop the list with 472 points and 16 first-place votes, Tufts in second with 444 points, and Salisbury in a close third with 443 points and three first place votes.
The Hornets will begin their 2025 season this weekend when they travel to Granville, Ohio for a swing against Denison on Saturday, August 30 and DePauw on Sunday, August 31.
