Lynchburg Swimming Begins Season With Exhibition At Liberty

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's swim teams turned in strong performances as they began their 2025-26 campaign with an exhibition meet against Liberty on Friday evening at the Liberty University Natatorium.

The meet opened with both Hornet squads competing in the 200 medley relays. The men's A-team of Henry Brooks, Ryan Bambrick, Patrick Puzon, and Adam Fisher touched in 1:35.24 to place first among all groupings, beating out Liberty's A-team by over one second. On the women's side, the A-relay of Abigail Schneider, Gracie Maughan, Sophia DaCruz, and Sienna Schmeck clocked an impressive 1:54.11.

Freshman Patrick Puzon had a standout night, claiming two event wins individually and taking part in both of Lynchburg's first-place finishes in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. He sprinted to victory in the 50 free (21.55) and claimed the 100 butterfly (52.73), while also contributing as the third leg on both of the winning 200 relays.

Fellow freshman Henry Brooks earned first place in the 100 back (52.86) and added a runner-up finish in the 100 free (47.94). Additionally, Brooks led the charge on the winning 200 medley relay team and anchored the victorious 200 freestyle relay.

The men's 200 free relay capped the night on a high as Wyatt Dacus, Fisher, Puzon, and Brooks combined for a 1:26.71 finish, edging Liberty for the win.

For the women, Gracie Maughan headlined with a runner-up swim in the 100 breast (1:06.90) and later anchored a strong 200 free relay. Freshman Sydney Weeks grabbed fourth in the 100 back (1:03.22) and added a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (55.69). In the 200 breast, Eliza Fleenor (2:35.73) and Schneider (2:38.90) finished second and third. Sophia Schorr added top swims in the sprints, going 25.56 in the 50 free and 56.47 in the 100 free.

The Hornets jump back into the pool next week for the ODAC Relays, hosted by Washington and Lee University on Saturday, Oct. 4, starting at 11 a.m. To view the complete results from tonight's meet, click here.
