Indoor Track & Field Concludes Regular Season at Rockingham Collegiate Open

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track & field teams will make final preparations for the conference championships as they compete at the Rockingham Collegiate Open on Friday, Feb. 20 in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Hornets have posted 10 national qualifying marks: nine individual performances and the distance medley relay team's 10:00.67 conversion from last weekend. Lynchburg plans to rest several athletes ahead of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, as this will not be the final week for submitting national marks.

Facility

The Rockingham Collegiate Open marks Lynchburg's lone trek to the Rockingham Recreation Center, which features a 200m indoor flat track. The 80,000-square-foot facility hosted its first track event last February after a 14-month construction process.

Hat Trick for the Record Book

Lynchburg posted three program records last weekend, courtesy of stellar performances from Alex Jordan, Rylee Turner and Lamont Victoria. Jordan cruised to a 14:11.47 conference record in the men's indoor 5k, earning his third ODAC Runner of the Week honor. Turner and Victoria stamped new school records in the 200m dash, registering 25.83 and 21.52, respectively.

High Flyers

This weekend marks the season debut for Jamarcus Brown and Selah Parker, two athletes who also compete for the Lynchburg basketball teams.

Despite a late arrival, Brown aims to return to All-American status following a record-breaking first season at Lynchburg. In his rookie campaign, Brown finished sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a 6' 9¾" (2.08m) performance and fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with an identical mark.

Brown's 6' 11" (2.11m) result at the Hill City Twilight Meet established a new program record during the outdoor campaign. While the basketball season progresses, the sophomore will attempt to set a nationally ranked mark this weekend that secures a top-20 spot at the NCAA Championships.

For the women's team, Parker plans to compete in the long jump after finishing 11th in the ODAC last outdoor season. The sophomore also competed in the 100m dash and the 4x100m relay for the Hornets during her first track & field season at Lynchburg.
