SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg women's golf team placed 16th in its opening competition of the spring season at the Savannah Invitational.
The competition took place over two days and consisted of two rounds of 18 holes with 19 programs in attendance. On the opening day, the Hornets teed off the event with a team score of +21, followed by a round-two score of +18.
Lily Rowe posted the top score for Lynchburg on the first day of action, finishing with a 76 (+3). Rowe completed the front nine at even par, which included two birdies. Taylor Park, Gabbie Hollberg, and Grace Saunders also contributed scores for the Hornets, shooting 78 (+5), 79 (+6), and 80 (+7), respectively.
On the second day of action, Rowe once again finished with the team's best score, improving her mark to 75 (+2). The same group recorded scores for Lynchburg in round two. Saunders finished with a 78 (+5), followed by Hollberg with an 81 (+8) and Park with an 83 (+10).
Carnegie Mellon took home first place with a team score of -24, followed by Washington-St. Louis (+2) and Emory (+4).
Rowe's team-best two-round total of +5 was tied for the 29th-best score among all golfers at the invitational.
The Hornets will return to action next week as they travel to the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational beginning Thursday, March 19.
