FOREST, Va. -- University of Lynchburg senior infielder
Sarah Watts has been named this week's Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball player of the week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Hornets matched up with the Captains of Christopher Newport in a doubleheader this past Saturday, April 4, for their lone action of the week. Lynchburg claimed a 17-10 victory in the opener before falling 10-8 in the second game.
Watts led the Hornets with a barrage of offense across both contests. In game one, she turned in a perfect 4-for-4 performance with two walks, driving in four runs and scoring four times herself to account for eight of Lynchburg's 17 runs. Watts jumpstarted the offense early with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
The South Boston, Virginia native continued her dominant day at the plate in game two. She once again went 4-for-4, adding two RBI and three runs scored. Watts launched two more home runs in the contest, maintaining her position as the ODAC leader in homers while keeping the Hornets within striking distance.
Following the weekend, Watts ranks among the top 10 in the conference in multiple statistical categories, including slugging percentage (6th), OPS (7th), runs (6th), RBI (9th), doubles (10th), walks (1st), and home runs (1st).
Watts and the Hornets return to action this week with three home doubleheaders, beginning with Sweet Briar on Tuesday, April 7.
